About Me
Hola! My name is Maria and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I speak both English and Spanish and take pride in my Hispanic culture! I have a passion for working alongside all diverse populations! I am a native Texan, Hispanic, proud Latina, born and raised, and from Mexican descent. I was born and raised on the Westside of SA, the 78207 area which many referred to. I grew up in a disadvantaged neighborhood, at times not the safest, but often times very rich in community, culture and relationships. I deeply value individuality, community as one sees fit, and believe that individuals are worthy and deserving of feeling safe.
As everyone, I have had my ups and downs in life and on many occasions, my life journey was a roller coaster of emotions filled with various obstacles and barriers and often times with uncertainties and limited opportunities. Throughout my personal and life experiences, I’ve learned that It’s okay not to feel okay, to feel lost, to be sad, to feel anger, and experience other difficult emotions. However, I also learned that it’s not helpful or healthy to stay stuck in these emotions.
I earned my Master of Social Work degree at Our Lady of the Lake University with a focus on children and families. I have over 15 years of experience in various fields and diverse settings including schools, child protection services, medical and behavioral hospitals, individual, group and family therapy and non profit organizations. Throughout my many years in practice, I have been grateful and had the opportunity to not only work alongside individuals of all ages including children, adolescents and families but to learn from each and every individual that allowed me in to their life journey.
In my spare time, I feel the most free when I am outdoors and connected with nature! I deeply enjoy all things running. Running has taught me to run through chaos and uncertainty and not from it.
I became a social worker because I have a passion for empowering individuals of all ages to overcome barriers, obstacles and helping individuals move forward at their own pace. I have a passion to help others strive for self-actualization, to help individuals embrace their self-worth and value and establish their own space! I have a passion for the human race, equity and justice! I look forward to learning from your journey and working with you!
